Bergamot 100% Pure Essential Oil (Citrus bergamia)
Product of Italy. 15 mL.
Bergamot Pure Essential Oil has a citrus, yet fruity and sweet with a warm spicy floral quality, and is reminiscent of Neroli, giving a middle note of medium strength.
Bergamot Essential Oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it an effective spot treatment for acne in people who do not have sensitive skin. Its analgesic qualities may also make it effective against painful cysts and pimples.
The Bergamot tree can grow up to four meters high, with star-shaped flowers, and smooth leaves, bearing citrus fruit resembling a cross between an orange and a grapefruit, but in a pear shape. The fruit ripens from green to yellow. The name Bergamot is derived from the city Bergamo in Lombardy where the oil was first sold.
Bergamot essential oil is highly favoured for its soothing use as an aromatherapy treatment such as:
- Mix bergamot essential oil with a carrier oil to use as a body lotion or for massage.
- Add two to five drops of Bergamot essential oil to products such as body wash, shampoo, and facial scrubs.
- Bergamot essential oil can be added to scent air fresheners. You can also dab it in vaporizers to distribute its scent in a room or add it to potpourri.
- Add a few drops on a bandana or handkerchief for a soothing scent or on an aromatherapy bracelet.
As with all essential oils, always do a skin test and/or mix with a carrier oil. Bergamot can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people. It can also cause photosensitivity, and should not be left on skin that will be exposed to sunlight. Always do your research on the safest ways to use any essential oil.
